Language Difficulties
　　下面这个句子你可能在听的时候，觉得在理解上有一定难度，我们不妨来看一下。
The US Department of Agriculture is a huge agency with a budget of 70,000 million dollars. Last year, federal payments to American farmers reached a record level. At the same time, many farmers are struggling to survive because they are getting such low prices for their crops.
　　这里讲，美国农业部是一个拥有巨资的机构，去年联邦政府支付给农民的农作物款达到了历史上的最高额，而与此同时，美国农民却面临生存危机，因为农作物价格非常的低。
· a record level的意思是跟以前相比，达到最高水平。
· struggle to survive的意思是拼命地为生计挣扎。
　　这段话涉及到了美国农民在布什政府期间所面临的困境。由于实现了机械化生产，美国农业的生产力水平相当高，农产品价格相应地不断下降，使得农民很难从中获利，以致于经营小片土地的农民购买不起新的农用设备，只好将土地出卖。
